2016 Salem Soccer Season Recap

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team wrapped up their 2016 season in exciting fashion. In the 16-member USA South Conference, Salem won the USA South Regular Season Title and were the USA South Tournament Runner-up. The team finished with an 18-2-1 overall record, which included a 13 game win-streak and a 10-0 home record. 

"We had a tremendous team that went out and battled twenty-one times for an incredible season," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "I am extremely proud of the hard work the young women on the team put in throughout the season and for a brilliant coaching staff."

The soccer program become the first team in school history to be ranked in the South as they earned a number 10 ranking. Brooke Bukas became the first athlete in school history to earn USA South Player of the Year honors. The defense allowed a school record .42 goals against per game as they only allowed 9 goals in 21 games. 

Sydney Priest was awarded twice as USA South Defender of the Week, and Morgan Canepa earned the honors once. Brooke Bukas was selected as the USA South Player of the Week once. Bukas was First Team All-USA South and First Team USA South West Division. Jordan Lanier, Hannah Huskey, and Canepa were honored with Second Team West Division honors. Kylie Dillow, Lanier, Priest, and Martha Santos were selected to the USA South All-Tournament Team.
