Soccer wins USA South opener on the road

Fayetteville, NC-The Salem College soccer team opened up their USA South regular season play with an important road win. The Spirits played against Methodist, who they defeated in overtime in last year's USA South semi-finals, and the Spirits won again 1-0. Salem is now 1-0 in the USA South and 7-2 overall, while Methodist falls to 0-1.

After several second half opportunities, the Spirits were able to score in the 84th minute. Hannah Huskey headed in a corner kick by Alyssa Denkovich for the game winning goal. Salem held a 14-10 shot advantage and 7-0 corner kick advantage in the game. Hannah Wagner earned the shutout in goal with 3 saves. 

The Spirits open home conference play this weekend against Greensboro on Saturday and William Peace on Sunday.
