Offensive Explosion Leads Salem to 4-1 Win Over N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Salem College soccer team showed offensive power in a 4-1 win over the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan.

First Half

It was a slow start for both teams in the road contest for the Spirits as the first goal came in the 32nd-minute of the game when NCW collected on a penalty kick. Less than 10-minutes later, Ellie Montes hit the equalizer sending the game into halftime tied at 1-1.

Second Half

The Bishops came out of the break on a mission with a shot and back to back offside calls against them in the first two-minutes. Salem would gain the advantage in the 60th-minute when Alyssa Denkovich sent in a corner and Courtney Chaplin drilled it into the net after a deflection. Almost 11-minutes later, Maddie Crumpton cleans up a deflected ball in the box for goal number three for the Spirits. Crumpton's day was not over yet as she would strike another to the net with four minutes left. Salem moves to a 3-4 record after taking down NCW 4-1.

Salem Standouts

-Maddie Crumpton earned two goals in the contest against the Battling Bishops.

-Ellie Montes and Courtney Chaplin each collected one goal.
