RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Olivia Kleven tapped the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Salem swim team, highlighting a solid performance by the Spirits in their second race of the season, which was hosted by William Peace at the Triangle Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Kleven, with three Top-3 outings at the event, led the way for a Salem unit that finished with a series of setbacks to Sweet Briar (133-45) and host William Peace (82-66).

Kleven became the first Salem individual to capture a race win, since the program's return to the pool. She took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:19.35, just over five seconds better than Ally Swain (William Peace), who closed in a time of 1:24.79.

Kleven also came through with a pair of second-place performances in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. In the 200-yard freestyle event, Kleven posted a time of 2:19.77, finishing just shy of the Pacers' Peyton Leischner, who closed in a time of 2:18.90. Kleven's time of 2:41.95 in the 200-yard individual medley was second to Sweet Briar's Peyton Murphy, who came through with a mark of 2:32.52.

Salem's Emily Inman also had three Top-5 finishes on the afternoon, including the 200-yard freestyle, where she enjoyed a time of 2:55.89, en route to a fifth-place finish. Inman, one of seven Salem competitors in the 100-yard freestyle, closed the event fifth in a time of 1:19.75. In her final race of the event, the 500-yard freestyle, Inman tapped the wall in 8:11.11, finishing fifth.

Sophomore Allison Wakefield put together a solid outing in three events. Her best finish, fourth, came in the 100-yard freestyle, where she posted a time of 1:18.76. She followed that with a sixth-place outing in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing behind Inman in a time of 8:27.23. In Wakefield's first event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle, she posted a time of 2:58.85, closing sixth.

Electric junior JaLisa Lumpkin streaked down the pool in the 50-meter freestyle in 46.95, posting her best finish of the early season, fifth. Lumpkin also competed in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing 10th in a time of 1:54.02.

Madison Robertson, who competed in three races over the course of the event, emerged with two fifth-place outings in the process. Robertson ended her first race of the day, the 200-yard individual medley, in fifth after a time of 3:15.81. She followed that with a seventh-place outing in the 100-yard freestyle after posting a time of 1:21.69. The final event for Robertson was the 100-yard breaststroke, where she finished fifth in a time of 1:42.21.

Senior Jaclyn Dennis earned the first Top-5 finish of her Salem career in the 100-yard backstroke, which she completed in 2:08.36, placing fifth. In her first race of the afternoon, the 200-yard freestyle, Dennis placed eighth overall with a mark of 3:28.83. One of seven Spirits in the 100-yard freestyle, Dennis finished ninth with a time of 1:36.59.

Ashleigh Nelson participated in two events for the Spirits, snagging seventh in the 200-yard freestyle after a time of 3:06.34. She followed that with a sixth-place outing in the 100-yard freestyle, tapping the wall in 1:20.69, posting the third-best time on the Salem team.

Kristen Kellogg competed in three events for Salem, competing in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, where she placed sixth. Kellogg was responsible for times of 52.00 (50-yard freestyle) and 2:19.21 (100-yard backstroke). In the 100-yard freestyle, she finished 11th in a time of 1:58.14.
