  • Dana Wall Named New Head Volleyball Coach

    The Salem College Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, is pleased to announce that Dana Wall will become the third coach in the NCAA era of the Salem Volleyball Program. Wall will replace Amanda Ziemba, who resigned in May to spend more time with her family.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost their last match of the season today 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 22-25) against Hollins University. Hart Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC) led Salem with 8 kills and 18 digs. Salem finishes the season with a 4-25 record.

    The Salem College volleyball team was defeated at home tonight against Guilford College 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 14-25). Hart Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits with 9 digs. Salem falls to 4-24, while Guilford improves to 12-14.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost a road match at North Carolina Wesleyan 0-3 (14-25, 12-25, 20-25). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 8 kills, 1 service ace, and 9 digs. Salem drops to 4-23 overall with the loss, and Wesleyan improves to 17-9.
  • Volleyball splits conference matches at home

    The Salem College volleyball team split a pair of Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) matches this weekend at home. The Spirits cruised to a 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-10) victory against Wesleyan, before falling in a hard-fought match against Huntingdon 1-3 (25-17, 24-26, 16-25, 23-25). Salem finishes conference play in 7th place with a 1-6 conference record, and they are now 4-23 overall.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost in 3 sets at home in a non-conference match against Greensboro College (21-25, 20-25, 19-25). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) and Hart Sanders (Winston-Salem, NC) each had 6 kills for the Spirits. Salem falls to 3-21 and Greensboro improves to 8-19.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost two Great South conference matches yesterday in Georgia. The Spirits lost to Spelman in the morning match, and to Agnes Scott in the afternoon match (20-25, 25-19, 17-25, 22-25). The two losses drop Salem to 0-5 in the Great South and to 3-20 overall.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost at Toccoa Falls in a non-conference match (5-25, 23-25, 20-25). Salem falls to 3-18, while Toccoa Falls improves to 12-11. Salem returns to action tomorrow when they play two Great South matches at Spelman and Agnes Scott.
  • Volleyball defeats Piedmont Baptist for a season sweep

    The Salem College volleyball team completed a season sweep of crosstown rival Piedmont Baptist College in four sets (25-14, 17-25, 25-16, 27-25) at Piedmont Baptist. The Spirits defeated PBC earlier in the season 3-1 at home. Salem improves to 3-17 with the win.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost their final 2 matches at the Gallaudet University Invitational. The Spirits lost 3-0 to Allegheny (19-25, 5-25, 10-25) and 3-2 to Rowan (25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 25-23, 16-18). Salem falls to 2-17 on the season.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost two matches in straight sets in the first day of the Gallaudet University Invitational today against the host school and Shenandoah University. Salem lost in their first match to Gallaudet (14-25, 23-25, 15-25) and to Shenandoah (15-25, 25-27, 18-25). Salem falls to 2-14 on the season with the losses.

    The Salem College volleyball team were barely unable to sweep the Peace Pacers for the first time in school history in a five-set loss. The two teams split the first four sets, before Peace was able to catch the fifth and final set (20-25, 25-22, 7-25, 25-18, 6-15). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 5 kills and 13 digs. Salem falls to 2-13, while Peace improves to 7-13 on the season.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost two home matches today. They lost this morning to Covenant in a non-conference match 3-0. They dropped an afternoon conference match against Maryville 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 13-25, 20-25). Salem falls to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in the Great South.

Hart Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits with 9 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, and 8 digs. The Spirits improve to 2-10, while Peace falls to 6-11.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost a non-conference road match at Guilford College in 3 sets. The Quakers defeated Salem (10-25, 21-25, 16-25). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 6 kills and 8 digs. Salem falls to 1-10 on the season, and Guilford and improves to 3-11.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost their first two Great South Athletic Conference matches today on the road at LaGrange. The Spirits lost to LaGrange in three sets (15-25, 12-25, 29-31). They lost to the Lions of Piedmont in three sets (12-25, 10-25, 16-25). Salem falls to 1-9 overall on the season and to 0-2 in the Great South.

    The Salem College volleyball team earned their first win of the season in their first home match of the year against cross-town rivals Piedmont Bible College. Salem won in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21). Salem moves to 1-7 on the year with the victory.

    The Salem College volleyball lost two matches today to Meredith 3-0 (11-25, 15-25, 22-25) and to Methodist 3-0. Ty Graham (Pink Hill, NC) and Brittani Stewart (Mocksville, NC) led the Spirits against Meredith with 6 kills each. Salem drops to 0-7 on the season with the two losses.
  • Roppolo selected to Eastern Mennonite All-Tournament Team

    Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) was selected to the Eastern Mennonite University All-Tournament team this past weekend. Roppolo led the Spirits with 23 kills in the four matches this weekend. She also led the Spirits with 48 digs.

    The Salem College volleyball team traveled to Greensboro College tonight and lost in three close sets (21-25, 23-25, 21-25). Brittani Stewart (Mocksville, NC) led the Spirits with 9 kills and 1 block. Salem falls to 0-5 on the season, and Greensboro improves to 2-3.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost its last three matches at the Eastern Mennonite University Volleyball Invitational. The Spirits lost to Catholic University yesterday afternoon in three sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-10). They lost to Mary Washington today (25-17, 25-17, 25-13). In their final match at the Invitational, the Spirits fell to Stevenson in three sets (25-15, 25-10, 25-19).

    The Salem College volleyball team lost their first match of the season against Eastern Mennonite University in the EMU Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn Invitational. Salem won the second set and was close in two of the three sets they lost. EMU ended up winning in four sets (24-26, 25-22, 14-25, 25-23). Salem falls to 0-1 on the season, and EMU improves to 1-0.

    Salem finished sixth in the voting as they look to replace last season All-Conference winner Christine Tillman. The Spirits recently announced that Tillman would continue with Salem as a new volleyball assistant coach.

    Head Coach Amanda Ziemba has announced that Christine Tillman (King, NC) has been hired as the volleyball assistant coach at Salem College for this upcoming season. Tillman was a four-year starter as an outside blocker for the Spirits, and she holds several all-time record at Salem.
