Salem Splits Conference Opener Against Mary Baldwin and William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Salem College volleyball team opened up conference play Saturday afternoon taking on Mary Baldwin and William Peace. Two very different games for the Spirits, as they swept MBU 3-0 and battled to a 3-2 loss to WPU.

vs. MBU

 Salem dominated play holding Mary Baldwin to less than 10-points in the second and third sets. Set one, Salem held off with a 25-21 win after being even at 10-10. From that point, Salem sped ahead and that momentum carried throughout the match. MBU struggled finding any offensive spark with a -.138 kill percentage in the match.

 vs. WPU

The Spirits battled in a five-set match against the Pacers after trailing 2-0 heading into the third. In the third, Salem tied up the set 3-3 capitalizing on an attack error by the Pacers. The Spirits held onto the lead the rest of the set winning it 27-25. The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams and a pair of late attack errors would tie the match up 2-2. WPU took an early lead in the fifth and stayed ahead taking the final set 15-9.

Salem Standouts

-Hannah Delcamp added to her program record assists total with 14 against MBU and 15 against WPU.

-Dixie Fulk set up 21 assists in the tri-match.

-Maggie Hawks collected 28 digs against WPU.
