Spirits Host Piedmont International for 2019 Home Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem volleyball team makes its home debut on Tuesday, Sept. 17, against crosstown foe Piedmont International when the two teams clash at 6 p.m.

The Spirits (3-5) look to get back on track offensively after a series of setbacks to William Peace (Sept. 13), Maryville (Sept. 14) and Guilford (Sept. 14) at last weekend's Guilford College Invitational.

Leading the way offensively for Salem in its home opener is the trio of Kathryn O'Connell (70 kills), Taylor Moulton (58) and Brooklyn Snow (55). O'Connell has topped double-digit kills on three occasions, including a single-match season-high 13 in a five-set thriller against Guilford on Saturday evening. She is also making an impact on the Spirits' defensive attack by topping the unit in digs (90) and total blocks (18).

Piedmont International (7-4) is riding a three-match winning streak after collecting victories against Pfeiffer (Sept. 12), Kentucky Christian (Sept. 14) and Columbia International (Sept. 14) in succession. The clash with Salem will mark the fourth USA South Conference opponent for the Bruins this season after squaring off against Greensboro (Aug. 31), Brevard (Sept. 7) and Pfeiffer (Sept. 12). Two of those meetings, against Brevard and Pfeiffer, resulted in victories for Piedmont International.

Virgillia Jones (74) and Mckenzie Mastin (67) top the Piedmont International lineup in kills, while Chelsea Edwards has handed out 276 assists. Meanwhile, Cameron Dubuc and Alexia Infante lead the way for the back row with 78 and 77 digs, respectively. Cydne Moore, with 14 total blocks (seven solo), anchors the front row for the Bruins.
