Softball wins three in a row

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team crushed Shenandoah 7-2 and 11-1 today at home after splitting with Guilford yesterday on the road. Statistics for the Shenandoah games go up online on Monday. The Spirits improved to 3-3-2 after the weekend.

Salem split on the road at Guilford. They fell in a close game one by the score of 6-5. They were able to score early and often in a 6-3 win in game two.

In game one, Salem fell behind 4-0 but scored 4 in the top of the fourth to tie the score. Guilford took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the inning, and each team scored once over the final three innings. Lauryn Smith gave up 6 runs on 10 hits in 6 innings on the mound. Bre Crumley and Maggie Fritts each had a double. Kierston Garner wents 2 for 3 and Amber Bass had 2 runs batted in. 

The Spirits hammered in 6 runs in the top of the third, and they only allowed three scattered runs in game two. Brianna Morris allowed 3 earned runs on 11 hits in 7 innings to pick up her first collegiate win. Crumley went 2 for 4 and Fritts led the team with 2 runs batted in. Fritts added a triple and Morris had a double.

The Spirits will host NC Wesleyan on Tuesday.
