Softball sweeps Randolph on the road

Lynchburg, VA-The Salem College softball team picked up a series sweep over Randolph today on the road. Salem won game 1 (5-3) in 9 innings and game 2 (3-2) in 8 innings. Brianna Morris and Hannah Nolan had excellent performances on the mound. Salem improves to 8-8 with the wins.

Morris pitched all 9 innings in game 1 and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. Nolan gave up 2 runs in 8 innings off of 10 hits.

Maggie Fritts, Montana Lineberger, Kierston Garner, and Briana Crumley led the team with 3 hits for the day. Fritts, Lineberger, and Jennifer Vitarelli all scored 3 runs. Garner led both teams with 3 runs batted in and she had a double in game 2. 

In game 1, Morris held the Wildcats scoreless through the first 5 innings. Randolph tied the game in the sixth inning. Salem piled on 3 runs in the top of the ninth for the win. Salem came behind from a 2-1 deficit to win game 2. 

The Spirits will host Ferrum on Tuesday.
