Softball drops two in Raleigh

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team dropped two close battles today in Raleigh. In a low scoring game, Washington College was able to escape with a 3-2 win. Salem and William Peace went back and forth in the second game, before the Pacers won the game 6-5 in the final inning. Montana Lineberger led the Spirits with 4 hits for the day. Salem is now 6-4 overall.

Washington took a 2-0 lead after the 5th and added a run in the top of the 7th. Salem scored 2 in the bottom of the inning but couldn't score the equalizer. Sydney Vaughn pitched the whole game, and allowed 9 hits.

In game 2, Salem took a 3-1 lead after 4 innings, but the Pacers scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th for a 5-3 lead. The Spirits tied the game in the top of the 7th, before a Pacer home-run won the game in the bottom of the inning. Lauryn Smith allowed 9 hits on the mound for Salem.

Brianna Crumley led the Spirits with 3 runs batted in. Brittany Morton hit a homer for the Spirits against Peace.

Salem battles Wilson College and Christopher Newport tomorrow in Raleigh.
