-USA South Freshman Pitcher of the Week (May 2, 2023)

FIRST YEAR (2023): A solid two-way player for Salem, who closed out her first season with the program with the most strikeouts (32) of any pitcher … made 15 appearances in the circle, including 11 starts … tossed the second-most innings (51), while allowing the fewest opponent hits (98) along the way … held opposing hitters to 19 doubles, three triples and four home runs … finished off the season by scoring two runs and drawing six walks in 33 plate appearances … made her collegiate debut against Averett (Feb. 18), closing with three at bats, and in the second game of the series with the Cougars entered the circle for four innings, allowing five hits and striking out one batter … had a four-strikeout performance against LaGrange (March 5) at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic in Raleigh, N.C., over five innings of work … followed that with a pair of strikeouts against Guilford (March 11) in the second game of the series … fanned a single-game season-high seven batters against Ferrum (March 19) in a complete-game nine-hitter … put together a solid outing against Livingstone (March 20), closing with two strikeouts and surrendering six hits, picking up her first collegiate win as Salem downed the Blue Bears by a 13-5 margin … opened April with a five-strikeout performance versus N.C. Wesleyan (April 2) in a relief appearance that spanned 1.2 innings … had two strikeouts in her final four games of the season against Sweet Briar (April 23), William Peace (April 26), Methodist (April 29-Game 1) and Methodist (April 29-Game 2) … wrapped up the final week of the 2023 regular season by becoming the second player in program history to earn USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors … joined Miranda Barker as the only two Salem players to earn the USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week accolades from the league … Stertzbach entered the circle on three occasions for Salem during a four-day stretch, facing William Peace in the opening game of a doubleheader on April 26th … returned to the circle against Methodist, tossing both games of the series, on April 29th at Blixt Field … tossed both 12 innings of the doubleheader setback (10-5 / 13-5 {5 inn.}), converting four K's and 233 total pitches against the Monarchs.

PREP: Graduated from Hopewell High School by way of Merancas Middle College High School in 2022 … played on the varsity fastpitch softball squad for four years, under the direction of Coach Battle and Coach Moreland, while at Hopewell High School … captured the team’s 2021 Most Valuable Player award … recognized as an All-Conference performer in softball in 2021.
