Salem Set to Host Surry CC in Exhibition

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Earlier this week Salem softball head coach Courtney Tucker added a game against Surry Community College.

The game, which is set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., will serve as an exhibition for the Spirits. It is one of two games for Salem this week, along with a clash with Guilford, set for Saturday afternoon.

Thursday's contest will be streamed live on www.salemspirits.com. The game will not count among the season statistics.

LOOKING BACK AT GRAND SLAM TRIANGLE CLASSIC: Salem is looking to find its rhythm after a pair of setbacks on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C., which came at the hands of LaGrange (11-0, 5 inn.) and Eastern Mennonite (10-3).

-Madeline Brown collected the lone hit for the Spirits, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.
-Kat Price accounted for a sacrifice for the Spirits.
-Alli Stertzbach finished off the game with four strikeouts.
-It marks the first game in Stertzbach's collegiate career with multiple strikeouts.

Salem Leaders: Savanah Atkins (2-3, 2 RBI, HR, run), Madeline Brown (1-3, RBI, HR), Kat Price (1-2)

-Savanah Atkins becomes the first Salem player to hit a home run in 2023, connecting on a two-run home run, which plated Shelby LaPoint from first, in the top of the second inning.
-Atkins has now recorded seven multi-hit games in her career, the first multi-hit game of the 2023 campaign.
-Atkins' home run is the sixth of her career.
-Madeline Brown smashed the first home run of her collegiate career, second of the season for Salem in the top of the third, moving the Salem lead to 3-1.
-Brown's home run is the sixth extra-base hit of her Salem career.
-Kat Price connects on the first hit of the season.
-Salem finishes the game with four hits, three RBI and three runs scored
-Price tossed 3.1 innings, scattered eight hits, allowed six runs (five earned).
-Katie Gerhardt tossed 2.2 innings, allowed four runs on three hits.
