STAUNTON, Va. — After suffering through a difficult one-hit outing in the opening game of the series, which resulted in a 16-1 setback, the Salem offense responded with seven hits, including two from Jessica Pinnix, before falling by a 10-5 score in the nightcap.

Madeline Brown and Maleah Tate highlighted the opening game, delivering one hit and a steal of home, respectively. However, the Spirits were unable to overcome an 11-run opening frame, suffering the setback.

Pinnix was the primary source of the offense in the second game, finishing with two hits and a pair of RBI. She highlighted middle part of the order, which accounted for six of the seven Spirit hits and three RBI. Teammate Cree Bass was also instrumental with two runs and an RBI on one hit in the contest.

-Madeline Brown keeps her hitting streak intact, stretching it to 10 games, with a single in the third inning.
-Maleah Tate swiped her second base of the 2023 campaign, stealing home for the only run of the contest.
-Katie Gerhardt tossed 0.2 innings, allowing 11 runs on eight hits.
-Alli Stertzbach entered the game in relief, limiting the Fighting Squirrel hitters to four hits, two earned runs and five walks.

MARY BALDWIN HIGHLIGHTS
-Emily McCreery picked up her eighth win of the slate after tossing 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while making two strikeouts.
-Reagan Frazier hurled 2.2 innings of relief, did not allow a hit, and fanned two Salem hitters.
-Four hitters in the Mary Baldwin lineup closed with at least two hits, including Olivia Gagne, who was 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBI, two runs and a triple.
-Both Haley Roberts and Hadley May delivered home runs for the Fighting Squirrels.
-The Fighting Squirrels had 11 runs in the first and four in the second.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Pinnix notched her second two-hit game of the season, first since a 2-for-3 performance against Brevard (Game 2-March 26).
-Bass puts together a solid performance as Salem's No. 5 hitter, finishing 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
-The 3-7 hitters for Salem were responsible for six of the seven hits, three runs and three RBI.
-Price tossed six innings, allowed 11 hits, 10 runs (7 earned runs) and issued four walks in her start.
-Atkins led off the fourth with a hit and scored on a fielder's choice by Lauryn Fisher.
-Bass crossed the plate for the second Salem run on a wild pitch in the fourth.
-Bass came through with a single in the fifth, scoring Madeline Brown, who opened the inning by reaching on an error.
-Pinnix had a two-RBI single in the fifth, scoring Bass and Price, to cap off the three-run inning.

MARY BALDWIN HIGHLIGHTS
-The Fighting Squirrels were limited to one extra-base hit (double), which came from Allison Crum (2-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs).
-Sam Charles and Leanna Rankin both finished the game with three hits. Charles was responsible for three RBI and Rankin scored four runs.
-Morgan Hughes took the victory after tossing one inning, allowing two hits, three runs and one walk.
-Reagan Frazier and Molly Thompson fanned three Salem hitters apiece.
-Mary Baldwin established a 7-0 lead in the first two innings of the contest.
-The Fighting Squirrels had three runs over the final three innings, including a two-run sixth.
