ROME, Ga. – The Salem softball program picked up its third USA South Conference honor of the 2023 season on Thursday, May 4th, when junior outfielder Jessica Pinnix was named to the 2023 USA South Conference All-Sportsmanship Team by the league.
Pinnix was named to the team as part of the USA South All-Conference awards and becomes the fifth different Spirit to garner the award since 2017. The previous winners include Katie Bilbrey (2017), Brittany Morton (2018), Stephanie Galioto (2019) and Abby Shelton (2022).
The award marks the second from the league for Pinnix in 2023, who was named as the league's Rookie of the Week on March 27th. Teammate Alli Stertzbach also drew recognition from the USA South Conference when she was named Rookie Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Pinnix, who suffered a season-ending injury at Pfeiffer on April 6th, finished off her season with eight hits, six runs and five RBI. She closed out her first season on the field by posting a .250 on-base percentage while hitting .211 as both a batting average and slugging percentage.
Pinnix used her speed on the base pads to finish with three stolen bases, which tied her alongside teammates Savanah Atkins and Shelby LaPoint for third-most on the team.
The Rural Hall, N.C., native enjoyed her best stretch of the season from March 11th through March 26th, when facing Livingston and Brevard. She collected five hits, scored five runs and accounted for three RBI during that stretch, which brought her the Rookie of the Week honors.
On April 5th, in the second game of the doubleheader with Mary Baldwin, Pinnix equaled her single-game season-high in hits (two) with a pair of singles against the Fighting Squirrels.
