LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Salem tandem of Maleah Tate and Karma Morrison delivered five hits apiece in the doubleheader clash with Covenant, but the Scots prevailed with a pair of victories to wrap up a tough start to the Salem road swing in Georgia by triumphing 10-8 and 14-8 on Tuesday afternoon.

Tate highlighted the first game of the doubleheader by finishing 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs along the way. Meanwhile, Morrison led the way in the second game with a 3-for-4 performance that resulted in an RBI and two runs scored.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Salem tallied nine hits, receiving four of those from sophomore Maleah Tate, who finished 4-for-4 from the plate while scoring three runs.
-The Top five hitters in the Salem lineup accounted for all nine hits. They included Tate, Amy McLamb, Cassandra Miller and Karma Morrison. Carmen Duffey pinch hit for McLamb in the No. 2 spot and delivered a hit of her own.
-Salem received extra-base hits from both Morrison and Duffey.
-Isabella Morales and Kat Price both entered the circle for Salem. The pair allowed five earned runs each and issued just one walk over three innings apiece.
-Tate opened the game off with a single to shortstop before stealing second and advancing to third on the throw. Shelby LaPoint advanced her teammate home with a fielder's choice, giving Salem the 1-0 lead.
-Facing a 2-1 deficit entering the third inning, Salem put five runs across on four hits in the frame. McLamb led off the inning with a hit to right and Tate followed with a single to third. Two batters later, the pair scored on an RBI single to right by Miller.
-Morrison continued the scoring binge with a double to right before Savanah Atkins reached on a fielder's choice that plated Miller.
-Morrison crossed the plate on a grounder by Madison Long and Atkins trotted home following a throwing error at short.
-The Spirits received a pair of run-scoring doubles from Duffey and Morrison in the seventh, scoring Tate and Duffey herself on the play, but the rally fell short.

COVENANT HIGHLIGHTS
-The Scots finished off the first game with 15 hits, receiving multi-hit outings from Ashlyn Gaines (4-4, 4 RBI, double), Olivia Stefl (3-4, 2 RBI, 3 runs, triple), Helena Nagy (2-4, RBI, 2 runs, double) and J. Lyles (2-4, run).
-The Top three hitters in the Covenant order accounted for nine of the 15 hits.
-L. Edgar tossed six innings for the win, allowing six hits, six funs (five earned runs) and struck out two Salem sluggers.
-Covenant had multi-run innings in the first, third and fifth inning to score 10 runs.
-Lakyn Hacker sent a double to left centerfield, scoring three Covenant runners, as the Scots trimmed the Salem lead to 6-5 in the home half of the third.
-After evening the score at six-all in the fourth, Covenant broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning that included a double to left from Nagy and a bases-clearing triple down the left field line by Stefl.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Karma Morrison (3-4) and Griffin Pearce (2-4) were tops among Salem sluggers with multi-hit performances in the contest.
-The middle of the Salem lineup, which included Cassandra Miller (1-5), Morrison (3-4), Savanah Atkins (1-5) and Madison Long (1-4) combined for six of the 10 hits in the contest.
-Four pitchers, including Pearce (2.2 IP), Miller (0.2), Kat Price (0.2) and Isabella Morales (2 IP) entered the circle for Salem. The quartet allowed 14 runs, 11 earned runs and converted three strikeouts.
-Carmen Duffey scored the first run of the game, after reaching on a walk, following an infield error with Atkins at the plate.
-Madison Long reached on an error at short, allowing Morrison to give Salem a 2-0 lead when she crossed the plate.
-Price took advantage of an error at first base, which scored Morrison in the third, as Salem evened the contest at three-all.
-Facing a 12-3 deficit, the Spirits capitalized on an RBI single up the middle by Pierce that plated Long for the first run of the fifth. Maleah Tate followed with a single of her own, scoring both Pierce and Alli Stertzbach.
-The final run of the fifth came on a single to right by Morrison, who drove home Tate from third base.
-Salem plated its final run of the game in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle by Morales, which brought Long home from second.

COVENANT HIGHLIGHTS
-Covenant closed out the game with the most hits (24) by a Salem opponent in program history. The previous mark (19) was by Agnes Scott on April 29, 2016.
-Seven Covenant sluggers—Helena Nagy (3-4), Olivia Stefl (3-3), Taylor Murdock (3-4), J. Lyles (2-5), Lakyn Hacker (2-5), Hannah Blevins (2-3) and Bailey Johnson (2-4)—all had multi-hit games.
-Murdock picked up the win in the circle, allowing three hits and three runs, while walking four and striking out five Salem hitters.
-Mackenzie Kirby pitched two innings and Madison Bowden tossed one for the Scots.
-The Scots scored multiple runs in the first (two), third (two) and fourth (seven) in the victory.
-Covenant's big fourth inning came as a result of seven runs on eight hits and one Salem error.
