Bass, Davenport Top Salem Lineup Versus Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cree Bass scored a team-high 13 points and Tyler Davenport added 12, but it was the Greensboro tandem of Ta'Keria Legette (24 points) and Lauren Livingston (22) that made the difference as The Pride completed a season sweep of Salem with an 89-59 victory at Hanes Gymnasium on Sunday, February 6th.

Bass reached double digits after converting 5-of-9 from the floor, hitting a pair of 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Davenport topped double figures with a 4-of-8 performance from the floor, hitting 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Tamsi Echendu led the way in rebounds with nine, pulling down five on the defensive glass. Dionne Sampson handed out three assists in the contest.

Salem (3-17, 2-12 USA South) closed the game by hitting 20-of-62 (32.3%) from the floor, converting four 3-pointers along the way, and was successful on 15-of-27 (55.6%) at the free throw line.

Davenport helped Salem grab a 4-3 advantage early in the first quarter, but Greensboro scored six unanswered to move in front by five. Bass scored five of Salem's next seven points, making for a 12-11 contest for The Pride, but Greensboro answered with an 8-2 run of its own to forge in front 20-13. Echendu and Kyana Thomas sparked a Salem run that resulted in a 25-19 lead for The Pride at the close of the frame.

Greensboro (22-1, 15-1 USA South) opened the second on a 7-0 run, stretching the lead to 32-19, before Davenport provided the Spirits with their first points at the 6:24 mark. The Pride eventually stretched their lead to 15, 38-23, but points by Thomas and Davenport along with a free throw by Sampson trimmed the margin to 10 briefly with 48 seconds left in the quarter.

The Pride distanced themselves with a 30-16 margin in the third quarter, hitting 10-of-20 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the charity stripe in the process. Holding a 12-point lead entering the frame, 41-29, Greensboro capitalized on an 18-5 run that stretched the lead to 59-34, before Savanah Atkins provided a layup for Salem. Davenport and Bass combined for the next five points for Salem, which faced a 71-45 deficit through three quarters.

Lauren Privette opened fourth quarter scoring with the first three points for Salem,, but Greensboro's offense continued to hit on all cylinders, resulting in a 79-53 lead at the 4:52 mark. Thomas scored two of Salem's final six points down the stretch, but Greensboro prevailed with its 12th straight win in the head-to-head series.

Salem returns to the court on Wednesday, February 9th, when it hosts Mary Baldwin for the Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game at 6 p.m.
