Griffin Earns Second USA South Rookie of the Week Honor

ROME, Ga. – Salem's Minnie Griffin earned her second USA South Conference Rookie of the Week honor of the season, in a statement from the league office on Monday, January 30th, after averaging 17 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest last week against Mary Baldwin (Jan. 25) and Greensboro (Jan. 28).

Griffin becomes the first player in program history to earn the USA South Conference Rookie of the Week distinction twice in the same season. On November 28, 2022, when she first earned the award after notching 23 points, four rebounds and two steals versus Methodist, Griffin joined Tamsi Echendu and Alize Munn as the only Spirits to receive the award in program history.

The Orlando, Florida, native has been heating up from the field in her last three contests for Salem, scoring double figures in reserve against USA South Conference foes Pfeiffer (11), Mary Baldwin (20) and Greensboro (14), after logging at least 20 minutes in each game.

Griffin was instrumental in Salem's first league victory of the season, which came on January 25th against Mary Baldwin, by converting 8-of-20 from the floor and 3-of-4 at the free throw line to emerge with 20 points. The 20-point performance, which was three points shy of her single-game season-high, also included seven rebounds (four offensive) and four steals.

Griffin's week concluded with a 14-point game against USA South Conference leader Greensboro, where she was 4-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Griffin was also active on the glass with four rebounds in 28 minutes versus The Pride.

With her recent stretch of double-digit scoring performances, Griffin has eclipsed double figures on five occasions this season. Four of those outings have come against USA South Conference opposition.
