Monarchs’ Second Half Goal Results in 1-0 Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist's Maddie Hernandez drove home a goal in the 57th-minute to deliver a 1-0 in the USA South Conference opener for both teams which coincidentally marked the first win in the series over Salem in Fayetteville on Saturday, September 25th.

The Monarchs, who improved to 4-1 overall, managed 16 shots over the course of the contest. Eight of those attempts went in the direction of the net, and of those 16 shot attempts five came off the foot of Natalia Marshall-Hewitt. The trio of Madison Brunson, Rachel Johnson and Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber. On defense, the combination of Mary Newman and Caley Justice combined for two saves in 90 mintes.

Salem (4-6, 0-1 USA South) received one shot each from Amanda Rojo, Ashley Linden, Alyson Gammons and Baylee Greenwood. Rojo and Linden were responsible for one shot on goal apiece. Jordan Tomberlin stopped seven of eight shots on goal by the Monarchs and logged all 90 minutes in net.

Salem begins a two-match home stretch on Tuesday, September 28th when it hosts intercity rival Greensboro at 4 p.m. on Varsity Field.
