Linden Converts Penalty Kick in Setback to Averett

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A pair of first half goals by Celia de Diego and Maiju Hyvarinen helped provide Averett with a lead it would not relinquish as the Cougars picked up the fifth all-time win in the head-to-head series against Salem by a 3-1 margin on Saturday, October 2, at Varsity Field.

A goal in the 17th-minute by de Diego, who punched home a pass from teammate Clarice Peters, provided the Cougars with a 1-0 advantage. Just over 12 minutes later, at 29:09 Maiju Hyvarinen, drove home an unassisted shot to move the lead to 2-0.
