Gammons, Tomberlin Key in Salem’s 1-0 Victory at Pfeiffer

MEISENHEIMER, N.C. – Alyson Gammons scored her fourth goal of the season and teammate Jordan Tomberlin came through with six saves to help lead Salem to a 1-0 victory at Pfeiffer in USA South Conference soccer action at N.E. Lefko Field in Meisenheimer, N.C., on Wednesday evening.

Gammons drove home the lone goal of the game in the 20th-minute of action when Caelan Gaul hit her with a pass. Gammons' fourth goal of the slate, which gives her third-most on the unit, skated past Pfeiffer's Britney Levy.

Salem, which improved to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in USA South action, managed six shots over the course of the match and five shots on goal. Baylee Greenwood attempted two shots, the lone Spirit with multiple shots on the evening, including one in the direction of the net.

Jordan Tomberlin anchored the Salem defense with six saves in 90 minutes of action as she picked up her third victory in net this season. Tomberlin has converted at least four saves in her last six matches, including a single-match career-high 14 in a 1-0 victory over Greensboro on September 28th.

Pfeiffer (0-9, 0-4 USA South) finished the match with eight shots (six shots on goal), dropping its first match to the Spirits since October 4, 2017 when Salem emerged with a 2-1 victory. Hannah Potter closed with two shots (one SOG) in the match, the most of any Falcon. Levy led the way for Pfeiffer's defense with four saves.

Salem looks to extend its winning streak to two when the Spirits make the trip to Raleigh, N.C., to face Meredith on Saturday, October 9th at 12 p.m.
