Rojo Named to USA South All-Sportsmanship Team

ROME, Ga. – Salem senior Amanda Rojo was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team when the league announced its All-Conference awards on Friday, October 29th.

Rojo, a graphic design major and Spanish minor, played in 52 matches and made 15 starts over the course of her soccer career. She made 11 of those 15 starts in 2021, attempting seven shots and five shots on goal along the way.

The Hickory, N.C., native closed out her career with one goal and 23 shots to her credit, finishing with 14 shots on goal. The lone goal came in a 4-1 victory versus Guilford on September 25, 2018.

Rojo had at least seven shots in each of her three seasons at Salem, including a single-season career-high nine in 2019-20. That season also resulted in her most shots on goal (six), resulting in a .667 shots on goal percentage.

Covenant's Kailey Burrell was named Player of the Year and Averett's Celia de Diego earned Rookie of the Year while the Piedmont duo of Laila Allen and Timmy McCormack collected Goalkeeper of the Year and Coach of the Year accolades, respectively. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.

All awards were voted on by the women's soccer coach at each institution. The divisional team voting was completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The all-conference and individual award voting was completed by all coaches.
