WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— Salem senior netminder Jordan Tomberlin converted 11 saves throughout the course of the match against Randolph, but it was a penalty kick by Alana Ellis in the 88th minute, following a handball, that proved to be the difference as the visiting WildCats escaped with a 1-0 win at Varsity Field on Wednesday, September 14.

The WildCats attempted a corner kick and an errant touch by a Salem defender set up the opportunity for Ellis to attempt the penalty kick. Ellis delivered the game-winning shot with her attempt as Randolph picked up its first-ever win in the head-to-head series.

The Salem offense was limited to five shots and one shot on goal, which came off the foot of Ashley Linden. Meanwhile, Randolph countered with 32 shots, including six each from the trio of Ella Myers, Sterlyn Woodward and Bo Knight. The WildCats closed out the match with 13 shots on goal, including a match-high three off the foot of Woodward.

Multiple Salem defenders, including Serenity Powell, Isabel Scott, Kylie Clark, Olivia Nivens, Alyson Gammons and Miriam Moctezuma made their presence felt against the offensive attack of the WildCats.
