Salem Swimming Set for Two-Day Stint at William Peace Invitational

LAST TIME OUT
The Salem swim team began its 2022-23 campaign with a solid showing against intracity rival Greensboro, when the two teams squared off at the Royce Reynolds Family Student Life Center Pool on the Greensboro College campus.

Salem finished the afternoon with eight Top-3 finishes, including first-place performance by senior Kylie Clark in the 50 backstroke.

The afternoon began with second-place finish by Scarlett Urbaez in the 200 freestyle, who posted a 3:44.64 in her first collegiate event. Clark followed that with a second in the 100 backstroke (1:46.37) and a third in the 50 freestyle (39.26) event. In that 50 freestyle, Salem's Eleanore Regenthal made her collegiate debut and finished fourth with a mark of 41.92.

Urbaez touched the wall second in the 100 freestyle, streaking down the pool in a time of 1:35.98. Regenthal claimed the fifth Top-3 finish for the Spirits in in the 200 backstroke, finishing second in a time of 3:56.59.

The Spirits wrapped up the afternoon by sweeping the Top-3 finishes in the 50 backstroke of the meet. Clark, who posted a time of 48.54, edged out Regental (49.57) and Urbaez (53.66) for first, second and third, respectively.

FAMILIAR TRIP FOR SPIRITS
This weekend marks the second time in as many seasons that Salem swimming has made the trek to North Carolina's capital city.

2021-22 WILLIAM PEACE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: Kylie Clark was among the Top-50 finishers in four events for Salem, including a 26th-place performance in the 200 backstroke, best of any Salem swimmer, which came by virtue of a time of 3:46.41. She posted the 31st-best time in the 100 backstroke (1:45.28) and closed out the 500 freestyle in 34th at 9:37.48. Her remaining Top-40 finish, 39th, came in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 3:30.24. She capped off the meet with a 51st-place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:27.74) and was 64th in the 50 freestyle (39.55).

CLARK ENTERS WEEKEND WITH SEVEN TOP-3 FINISHES
After earning three Top-3 finishes last weekend in a clash with Greensboro, Kylie Clark has now notched seven Top-3 finishes in her collegiate swimming career.

Clark posted four Top-3 finishes over the course of the 2021-22 season, her first at Salem. The first time that the Annandale, Virginia, native touched the wall among the first three competitors was on January 29, 2022, in a dual that included Greensboro, St. Andrew's, Warren Wilson and Piedmont. That came when she posted a time of 4:16.44 in the 200 backstroke.

Her second third-place finish came on February 2, 2022 at the Pfeiffer Dual, when she posted a time of 1:48.93 in the 100 backstroke.

Clark placed first in both the 100 backstroke (1:50.81) and 50 freestyle (42.72) at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Dual on February 3, 2022.
