Salem Completes Home Non-Conference Slate Versus Randolph

LAST GAME RECAP (vs. Southern Virginia)
Salem first-year Abrielle Eckenroth claimed her third singles win of the season, second in as many matches, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Southern Virginia's Clara Seamons when the two teams clashed at the Bert Lain Tennis Center for the fourth time in program history.

Eckenroth was responsible for the lone point for the Spirits, who suffered an 8-1 setback to league rival Southern Virginia when the two units met in Winston-Salem. Eckenroth teamed with Alyson Gammons for No. 3 doubles, but the unit suffered an 8-0 setback to Grace Howell and Beth Liddicoat in the first match of the day.

Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold put the second Southern Virginia point on the board with an 8-2 victory in No. 1 doubles against Alana Bridges and Emily Griffis. The Knights established a 3-0 advantage in the match after Nadia Molanphy and Campbell Bueler claimed an 8-4 victory against Cadence Durham and Ashley Linden.

Bueler picked up her second win of the afternoon in No. 2 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Griffis. Snelson triumphed in No. 1 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 margin against Durham to secure the team victory for the Knights.

Molanphy stretched the Southern Virginia lead to 6-0 after claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gammons in No. 4 singles. The seventh point for the Knights came from Howell, who in No. 5 singles posted a 6-3, 6-0 win against Linden.

Southern Virginia's final point of the afternoon came by virtue of a victory from Arnold, who emerged with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bridges in the meeting of No. 3 singles.

RANDOLPH, SALEM CLASH FOR SECOND TIME IN 2022-23
Saturday afternoon will mark the second meeting between Randolph and Salem in the 2022-23 season and first since September 18, 2022, where the WildCats emerged 8-1.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2022 RECAP: The Salem tennis team wrapped up a three-match, two-day stretch with an 8-1 setback at Randolph on Sunday, September 18th.

The lone victory in the match against the WildCats by the Spirits came from first year Harley Hedrick, who closed out a 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 win over Gianna Cabrera.

Jenna Fink and Cassidy Bell provided the host WildCats with their first point in doubles with an 8-0 win against Emily Griffis and Tiara Howard. Harper Whetzel and Cabrera followed that with an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles against the tandem of Cadence Durham and Hedrick.

Randolph's No. 1 doubles team of Valentina Santos and Sabrina Dickerson stretched the lead to 3-0 in the match with an 8-0 victory over Alana Bridges and Haley Gilley.

Bell picked up her second win of the afternoon at the Randolph Tennis Courts in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Howard. Dickerson clinched the team win for Randolph by downing Griffis in the battle of No. 2 singles by a 6-3, 6-1 margin.

Santos provided the WildCats with a 6-0 advantage by defeating Durham in No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-0). After Hedrick put the first point of the day on the board for Salem in No. 5 singles, Randolph stretched the lead to 7-1 with a three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 10-8) from Whetzel against Gilley in No. 3 singles.

Randolph's Fink also scratched out a three-set win in No. 4 singles, defeating Bridges, for the eighth point of the afternoon.

TOPPING THE INDIVIDUAL CHARTS FOR SALEM
This weekend's match with Randolph marks the final non-conference home match of the 2022-23 season. Salem enters the match with a 3-10 mark, winning two of the contests at the Bert Lain Tennis Center. Salem has six players with at least two singles wins on the slate, including Alana Bridges, who is 5-7 overall. Bridges has two wins at No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, while posting one at No. 5 singles.

Alyson Gammons is second in singles victories with four, three of which came as the No. 4 seeds. Both Ashley Linden and Abrielle Eckenroth are tied for the third-most singles victories with three. Eckenroth has claimed all three victories at No. 6 singles, while Linden has her trio of singles wins at No. 5.

Bridges has three wins alongside Harley Hedrick in doubles, tops on the team. There are three other doubles teams tied with two wins apiece for Salem.

ANALYZING CLASH WITH RANDOLPH
Randolph is 6-8 overall on the season and 2-6 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference, grabbing two wins on the road. The WildCats have managed just one win since March 29th, which came in 9-0 fashion by Ferrum on April 5th.

The top individual on the Randolph squad is Cassidy Bell, who is 10-6 overall and 4-2 as both the No. 5 and No. 6 seed. Valentina Santos is second with nine singles wins, while Harper Whetzel is third on the team with eight.

The duo of Cassidy Bell and Jenna Fink have accrued the most doubles wins (seven).
