WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Aspen Bradley drove home a match-high 15 kills, while teammates Macy Nelson and Ella Brameus came through with 10 digs apiece, helping Salem cap off the 2022 home finale with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 triumph over Brevard. It marks the ninth win of the season for the Spirits at Varsity Gym this season, tying the 2008 squad for the second-most wins in a season at home.

With her 15-kill performance, Bradley inched closer to the program's all-time single-season kill mark by both a first year and overall. The Redmond, Oregon native, with 317 kills to her credit, trails Taylor Moulton's first-year record by just 12 and Kylie Taffer's single-season mark by 13. Bradley was efficient throughout the match in delivering kills, finishing with a .407 attack percentage with just four miscues in 27 total attacks.

Also coming through with solid offensive outings were Anna Rymer and Valeria Rosa Lopez, who had nine kills apiece. Like Bradley, Rymer was also efficient, posting a .692 attack percentage in 13 attacks, establishing a single-match season-high in the process. Ashlyn Wood capped off the match with 24 assists, while Ashlee Peek added 15, helping Salem finish with a .240 attack percentage.

Brameus and Nelson anchored a backrow unit that accounted for 64 digs with 10 apiece. Lopez and Wood came through with seven digs each for Salem.

FIRST SET RECAP
The Spirits battled through six ties, including a seven-all deadlock, to grab an 11-7 advantage following a block from the pair of Rymer and Brooklyn Snow. Bradley added a kill and back-to-back miscues by the Brevard offense resulted in the lead. However, Brevard fought back to eventually assume a 14-12 lead on a slam from Makenna Parkins. Salem took advantage of kills from Bradley, Lopez and Abrielle Eckenroth to move in front 20-16. The Spirits surrendered just two points down the stretch while kills from Snow and Rymer delivered the victory.

SECOND SET RECAP
After six ties in the first 18 points brought the set to a 9-9 deadlock, the Tornados rattled off five points with Kaitlyn Pressley in serve to snatch a five-point advantage. The combination of Wood in serve and Bradley delivering kills, pulled Salem to within one, 16-15. Brevard made another surge, stretching the lead to 20-16, but Rymer countered with four kills and Brameus drove home a kill of her own to even the score at 21. Bradley converted two kills down the stretch while Brevard committed two unforced errors to give Salem the two-point win.

THIRD SET RECAP
Salem emerged with its best hitting percentage of the evening (.333) in the third, converting 16 kills along the way. The Spirits stormed out to a 11-4 lead with Peek in serve, who came through with two service aces and the support of a Rymer kill. Brevard retaliated with a 5-0 run of its own, but timely slams by Brameus and Eckenroth kept Salem in front 17-12. Trailing by six, 19-13, Brevard called a timeout and responded with five of the next seven points, to pull within two. However, the first year tandem of Brameus and Bradley combined for the final five points to deliver the 12th Salem sweep of the slate.
