Salem Places 46 on USA South Academic All-Conference List

ROME, Ga. – The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2019-2020 Academic All-Conference Team which produced a record 1,702 honorees.

A student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters of a given year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport.

Salem had 46 student-athletes maintain at least 3.3 GPA over the course of the 2019-20 academic calendar, earning USA South Academic All-Conference accolades. Twelve of those individuals were seniors who maintained at least a 3.9 GPA or better including: Amy Bounds (soccer), Madison Burch (softball), Courtney Chaplin (soccer), Madelyn Chappell (volleyball), Amanda Dacunto (softball), Hannah Delcamp (volleyball), Breanna Herman (softball), Jae Lehman (soccer), Brittany Morton (softball), Hannah Ostlund (lacrosse), Alexis Sunderland (volleyball) and Grace Wilson (tennis).

Additionally, there were eight non-seniors who maintained a 3.9 GPA or better during the 2019-20 academic year, including: Kylie Clark (soccer), Hannah Escala (softball), Emma Gaston (softball), Lauren Holman (volleyball / tennis), Teia Horton (lacrosse), Ellie Montes (soccer), Anna Schneider (volleyball) and Jordan Tomberlin (soccer).

The Spirits' soccer team ended the season with the most players with at least a 3.3 GPA or better—finishing with 14. Joining their aforementioned teammates Bounds, Chaplin, Clark, Lehman, Montes and Tomberlin as members of the USA South All-Academic team were Callie Adams, Rachel Black, Juliette MacMurray, Aliyah Rice and Kim Sephaphathi, Hannah Wagner and Alexcina Wartski.

Salem volleyball had the second-most USA South All-Academic members with 10. With five of those individuals posting at least a 3.9 GPA, those with a 3.3 GPA included Brianna Cherry, Taylor Moulton, Valeria Rosa Lopez, Corrin Shores and Brooklyn Snow.

The Salem softball unit had nine USA South All-Academic honorees. Six members of the team had at least a 3.9 GPA, while Amy Stutzer, Hannah Thompson and Savannah Whetzel maintained a 3.3 GPA.

Head Coach Emma Rose's lacrosse team had six USA South All-Academic members. While Horton and Ostlund posted at least a 3.9, teammates Danielle Allen, Cara James, Sarah Loarca and Collette Vladimery maintained at least a 3.3 GPA to make their impact academically.

Holman, who competed in tennis and volleyball over the course of the slate, was the lone Salem student-athlete on the USA South All-Academic team that played two sports in the league. She and Wilson, who maintained at least a 3.9 GPA, were joined by teammates Morgan Scholz and Carmen Wilkins on the unit.

Both the Salem basketball and cross country teams finished with two student-athletes on the USA South All-Academic team. Cross Country teammates RoyseAnn Day and Mariana Rubio earned their spot among the league's top scholars, while basketball's tandem of D'Lesjah Jones and Lauren Privette had at least a 3.3 GPA.
