Bloch, Wakefield & Trogdon Highlight Ways to Rise Together

Bloch, Wakefield & Trogdon Highlight Ways to Rise Together

The third day of the campaign is used to highlight the importance of community and action in driving diversity and inclusion efforts.

From the COVID-19 pandemic to increased momentum for racial justice movements, 2020 has shown us that the communities of which we are a part can be our biggest strengths and sources of support. On this day of the campaign, we call on campaign participants to showcase the strengths of their respective campus or conference university, with a particular focus placed on how diversity and inclusion enrich these communities. Let's use the final day of the campaign to outline the various ways in which we plan to improve our communities through intentional and strategic action. Because, after all, we rise together!

Abbey Bloch 2024, Lacrosse

How can we rise together through adversity? Give a brief answer.
We can ride together by making a bigger impact and spreading awareness about so much adversity

How we can enrich our communities through strategic action?
Spread awareness and talk about it as much as we can to spread the word

Allison Wakefield 2022, Swimming

How does everyone feel about team morale when it comes to diversity and inclusion?
I honestly don't know. I feel like we are doing well but I am also in a position of privilege where I don't have to think about these issues every day.

How can we include diversity and inclusion in our team norms, contract, etc.?
We need to include consequences for those who are discriminatory. We also need to include education and information to student-athletes

How can we rise together through adversity? Give a brief answer.
We can actively work together and support each other.

How we can enrich our communities through strategic action?
We can be good representatives for others, we can be active in our communities through service, petitions, and donations, and we can be vocal about our support for things like Black Lives Matter.

SALEM COLLEGE RESOURCES AVAILABLE

Diversity and Inclusion Resources: Students for Reproductive Freedom (by Yulia Trogdon)

Students for Reproductive Freedom was started in hopes to extend resources regarding sexual health and awareness to our student body. Our club is founded on the values that every student regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, and gender identity deserve to have their bodies respected and advocated for. Our core values include: diversity, inclusion, integrity, compassion, and respect.

I, Yulia Trogdon have worked very closely with our President, Tajauna Batchelor and our Vice President, Megan Pleimann, in founding this club. We all have a vision for Salem. To provide available and affordable resources along with accurate information encompassing women's health and ensuring Salem students have access to these resources, but it is much more than that. We want our community to feel valued. All of us are seniors and Salem College has taught us the importance of uplifting our communities and the first step in doing so starts with us.

Starting this club just before Covid, has had its challenges. Inturn, this has made us even stronger. Our struggles have pushed all of us to fight harder to give our student body access to this important information. We fortunately were able to have partnered up with Planned Parenthood to give the most accurate and up to date information we can. Being that everything is virtual it has allowed us to work more closely with our Planned Parenthood representative, which sounds ironic. Our club couldn't be more grateful for what is to come despite our fall backs.

Sexual Health can be a terrifying topic for some, and providing a space for students to feel comfortable being themselves, and becoming more aware of their sexual freedom is a huge step; we feel to a better future. All of us want this club to thrive past our time at Salem. Which is the reason we have structured it to provide educational programs and information surrounding women's sexual health and reproductive rights. Above all else, Students for Reproductive Freedom will be a confidential resource and support for all Salem students.
