Rockingham County High's Settles commits to play softball at Salem

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball program is excited to announce that Abby Settles has committed to attend Salem next fall. Settles was a four-year varsity member for Coach Scott Isley and Coach Woody Wall at Rockingham County High School in Reidsville, NC. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 school year.

Settles was selected as the RCHS Wendy's Heisman Female Athlete of the Year this year. She was selected as an all-conference member in 9th and 10th grades, and as a honorable mention 2A all-area selection those two years. She was also her team's most valuable player twice.

Settles plays club softball for Coach Don Settles, Coach Keith Huckabee, and Coach Jeff Herrington for the Proehlific Power. She also played for the Blueridge Bombers, where she was their defensive player of the year.

She has been involved in several extracurricular and academic activities at RCHS. She has been on the honor roll and the Dream Team. Settles is in the Future Teachers of America and the Interact Club. She is the daughter of Arleen and Don Settles.

Salem College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Winston-Salem, NC. Salem is the oldest educational institution for women in the United States, and was founded in 1772. The institution boasts a proud history of fostering independence in women. Salem has been ranked in the top 100 in Forbes magazines annual ranking of America's 600 best colleges, and in their "America's Best College Buys" Top 100.
