Winston-Salem, NC-Salem College Athletic Director Dr. Kim Fierke is excited to announce the addition of Scott Long to the Spirit Athletic Department. Long will takeover the position of Head Softball Coach immediately. Long will focus heavily on recruiting this year in preparations for softball’s first season in the Great South in the 2011-2012 academic year.

“Salem is privileged to have a talented and tactical coach like Scott Long,” said Fierke.  “He has proven he has the ability to build successful softball programs and I have no doubt he will build a quality and competitive softball program at Salem College."

Long comes to Salem after spending the past three seasons as the varsity softball head coach at Calvary Baptist High School in Winston-Salem. Long led Calvary to a 33-17 record over those three years, and was selected as the 2008 Triangle Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Long has also spent time as a football assistant at Enloe and Bishop McGuinness High School, coaching baseball at Enloe and Calvary, and as a basketball coach at East Forsyth Middle School in Kernersville. He is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Long recently completed his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education at Winston-Salem State University, and he also holds a Radio and Television Diploma from Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC. Since his move to Winston-Salem in 2005, he has spent time working with ISP Sports, WSJS/WMFR, and the Career Center High School.
