Watauga High's Drummonds commits to play softball at Salem

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball program is excited to announce that Shelby Drummonds has committed to attend Salem this fall. Drummonds was a four-year varsity starter. She played her freshman and sophomore seasons for Coach Sara Novak at Mantanzas High School in Palm Coast, FL. She played her last two years for Coach Brian Vannoy and Coach Brad Issacs at Watauga High School in Boone, NC. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 school year.

Drummonds was selected to the all-conference first-team her sophomore, junior, and senior year and to the second-team as a freshman. She was her team's most valuable player as a sophomore and junior and was also selected to the all-district and all-state team as a junior.

Drummonds played club softball for Coach Jerry Moretz and Coach Shane Johnson from 2010-2011 in the NC area, and played four years of club for the Cyclones Travel Club. She was also a two-year member of the swim team at Watauga.

She has been involved in several extracurricular and academic activities including winning the Knowledge Award in ninth grade and being on the honor roll all four years. She was also on the steel band and in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Drummonds is the daughter of Kelly and Jeff Drummonds.

Salem College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Winston-Salem, NC. Salem is the oldest educational institution for women in the United States, and was founded in 1772. The institution boasts a proud history of fostering independence in women. Salem has been ranked in the top 100 in Forbes magazines annual ranking of America's 600 best colleges, and in their "America's Best College Buys" Top 100.
