Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team celebrated its three seniors by crushing Wesleyan College twice. The two wins improved Salem to 2-0 in the Great South. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) went 5 for 7 for the day to lead the Spirits. Salem improves to 9-15, while Wesleyan falls to 3-29.
The Spirits celebrated Morton, Emily DeVane (Lillington, NC) and Kaitlyn Horner (Elkhart, IN) during their senior day. Morton blasted a home-run in her first at-bat of the day. She had 2 runs batted in and scored 4 runs. DeVane was 3 for 6 with 1 run. Horner finished 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 run batted in.
Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) was the winner on the mound in game 1. Lauryn Smith (King, NC) won game 2. Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) pitched three scoreless innings.
Coleman hit a home-run in game 2. She finished with 3 runs batted and 4 runs. Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) had 3 runs batted in for the day.
The Spirits will host Methodist on Wednesday in non-conference action.
