Softball defeats Southern Vermont and New England in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The Salem College softball team won easily against New England and Southern Vermont today. The Spirits defeated Southern Vermont 9-1 and New England College 7-2. Lauryn Smith (King, NC) earned the win against New England, and Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) won against Southern Vermont. The Spirits improve to 7-11 for the season. 

Smith pitched 7 innings in the first game. She allowed 7 hits and had 7 strikeouts. Coleman pitched 5 innings in the Southern Vermont game. She only gave up 1 hit and had 5 strikeouts. 

Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) led the Spirits with 3 hits against NEC. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) and Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) each had 2 runs batted in. Coleman had 2 hits against SVC.

Salem will play two games in Myrtle Beach tomorrow.
