Softball gets two home runs from Garner in split with Maryville

Welcome, NC-The Salem College softball team was three outs away from pulling off a sweep of Maryville today during a doubleheader played at North Davidson High School. After falling 5-4 in the 1st game, Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) hit two blasts over the fence to propel Salem to an easy 7-2 win in game two. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) was an impressive 5 for 7 in both games. Salem improves to 5-11 overall, while Maryville drops to 4-22.

Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) and Lakin East (Mt. Airy, NC) each had four hits today. Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) each had 3 hits. Garner, Kennedy, Bass, and Lauryn Smith (King, NC) all finished with 2 runs. Garner led the Spirits with 4 runs batted in. 

Coleman picked up the win on the mound. She pitched 7 complete innings, while only allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. Smith was impressive on the mound in the first game, when she pitched all 7 innings. She only allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Spirits were hot at the plate all day against Maryville's pitching. They outhit the Scots 26-15 for the day.

Salem heads to Myrtle Beach for two games tomorrow and two games on Saturday.
