Softball loses against Neumann and Meredith in Raleigh

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team played two tough games on the road today to cap off their first weekend of play at the Triangle Classic. After falling 10-3 to Neumann in their opener of the day, they battled the host Meredith to extra innings. Meredith scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 3-2 win. Salem falls to 1-3, while Neumann improves to 2-2 and Meredith improves to 2-2.

In the Meredith game, Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) pitched a gem. She allowed just eight hits and one earned runs over seven plus innings of pitching. Salem fought back from a 2-0 deficit to put up 2 runs in the top of the six to tie the score. Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) drove in Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) for the Spirits first run. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) drove in Lauryn Smith (King, NC) for the second run.

The Spirits return to the road on Tuesday as they head to North Carolina Wesleyan of the USA South.
