Softball picks up win in Georgia

Demorest, GA-The Salem College softball team went 1-3 in their road-trip to Georgia this weekend. After a rough start with two losses to host Piedmont and one to Truett-McConnell, their bats woke up to help them defeat Truett-McConnell 7-4 in their last game on Saturday. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) led the Spirits on the weekend with 5 hits including two doubles and a triple. Salem improves to 4-10, while Piedmont is 19-2 and Truett McConnell is 7-17.

Piedmont swept the Spirits 9-1 and 9-0. Lauryn Smith (King, NC) and Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) were the two losing pitchers in those games. Truett-McConnell won the first game with Salem 12-1, and Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) was the losing pitcher. Smith picked up an impressive win against Truett when she pitched all 7 innings giving up just 6 hits.

Coleman also finished with 5 hits for the weekend and led the team with 2 runs batted in. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) had four hits and 2 runs. Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) finished with 3 hits that were all doubles and 3 runs. Smith had 3 hits and two runs and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) finished with 3 hits.

The Spirits will host Maryville on Wednesday.
