Softball splits at home with Methodist

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team split two games at home with Methodist University. After falling 9-4 to the Monarchs in game 1, the Spirits fought back to beat Methodist 3-2 in the 2nd game. Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) led the Spirits with four hits for the day. Lauryn Smith (King, NC) pitched a gem in game two. Salem improves to 10-16 overall with the win. 

In game 2, Salem put up a run in the 2nd and 2 runs in the third. They were able to hold on as Smith only allowed two runs on 8 hits through all 7 innings. Kennedy had a triple in game 2, while Coleman and Garner each had doubles. Coleman also had a double in game 1. 

Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) each had three hits to continue their hot play. Coleman, Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL), and Kennedy all scored 2 runs. Smith led the team on the day with 3 runs batted in.

Salem hits the road this weekend for important conference games at Agnes Scott and Wesleyan.
