Softball swept in double-header at North Carolina Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, NC-The Salem College softball team jumped out to early leads in two games at North Carolina Wesleyan today, but they weren't able to hold the leads. Wesleyan won both games 11-3. Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) and Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) each had 3 hits to lead the Spirits. Salem falls to 1-5, while Wesleyan improves to  5-3. 

The Spirits were hot at the plate in the first inning of the first game. They jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. They held that lead until the bottom of the fourth, when the Bishops scored 9 runs. The Spirits jumped out again to a 1-0 lead in game two, before the Bishops scored 10 runs over the next two innings to take the lead. 

Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) and Morgan Coleman (Colfax, NC) each had 2 hits today for Salem. Garner, Jenna VanHorn (Goldsboro, NC), Lauryn Smith (King, NC), Taylor Freeman (Wendell, NC), and Bass all had 1 run batted in. 

The Spirits return to the road on Friday as they head to Randolph College. They will open their home campaign on Sunday against Guilford.
