SALEM, BREVARD CLASH IN MID-WEEK CONFERENCE GAME
The Salem softball team will cap off a quick four-game road stretch on Tuesday afternoon when it makes the trek to Brevard, N.C., for a doubleheader clash with the host Tornados. Salem began the its recent four-game stretch against Greensboro on Saturday afternoon in the Gate City.

After facing Brevard on Tuesday, the Spirits will host both William Peace (April 20th) and Mary Baldwin (April 24th) before closing out the 2024 regular season at Methodist on April 27th.

GREENSBORO WINS TRIAD BATTLE WITH SPIRITS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Sophomores Shelby LaPoint and Maleah Tate highlighted a USA South Conference doubleheader against Greensboro, which posted wins of 8-0 and 6-0, when the two clashed in Greensboro, N.C.

LaPoint came through with the second three-hit game of her Salem career, first since a 3-for-4 outing against Shaw in the first game of a doubleheader on April 18, 2023. Meanwhile, Tate, who swiped one base in two attempts to tie Brianna Morris' mark of 22 stolen bases in a season.

Senior Madeline Brown broke a recent hitting slump, finishing 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of singles.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Maleah Tate and Karma Morrison had one hit apiece for the Spirits, who tallied two hits in the contest.
-Tate was caught stealing for just the second time this season.
-Kat Price earned the starting nod for the Spirits, going four innings where she allowed 10 hits, eight runs and one walk along the way.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
- LaPoint came through with the second three-hit game of her Salem career, first since a 3-for-4 outing against Shaw in the first game of a doubleheader on April 18, 2023.
-Carmen Duffey reached on a double for the sixth time this season, marking her third double in the last five contests. Duffey's single came in the second inning.
-Isabella Morales fanned two Greensboro hitters, while Griffin Pearce struck out one Pride slugger in three innings of work.

LOOKING INSIDE THE SPIRITS
-The Spirits had a nine-hit game in the second game of the doubleheader with Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. Those nine hits are the most since a nine-hit performance in game two of the doubleheader against Meredith on March 29th. Salem has managed at least nine hits in eight games this season.
-The Spirits have blasted six home runs, including two in the second game of the series with St. Andrews on February 22nd. The last time that the Spirits had at least two home runs in a single game was on February 19, 2020 when they launched three against Guilford.
-Sophomore slugger Maleah Tate leads the way with a team-best 33 hits, batting average (.344) and 22 stolen bases. Tate is responsible for a .442 on-base percentage and a .395 slugging percentage for Salem.
-Tate's 22 steals are second-most in a single season in program history. She is tied for the single-season program record in steals with Karson Chapman, who tallied 22 in the 2013 campaign.
-First-year sluggers Karma Morrison (.362) and Taela Belcher (.310) rank second and third, respectively, on the unit in batting average. Morrison has 27 hits to her credit and ranks second in doubles with five.
-Cassandra Miller has accounted for 14 RBI and three home runs, which is tops on the team for home runs.
-First-year slugger Carmen Duffey leads the Salem lineup with six doubles. Duffey, who made her first appearance for the Spirits against Guilford on February 28th, has had three doubles in her last five games for Salem. Those two-base hits came against Pfeiffer (April 6-Game 2), Southern Virginia (April 10-Game 2) and Greensboro (April 13-Game 2).
-First-year hurler Isabella Morales has made her presence felt in the circle, notching 46 K's in 65 innings pitched. Morales' 46 K's on the season are 11th-most in program history, and with a pair of K's against Greensboro, she tied Brianna Morris' mark in 2016. With five more, Morales would join Morgan Coleman, who capped off the 2014 campaign with 50 K's.
-Morales, who has twice been named USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week, has issued just 20 walks and is boasting a 6.03 ERA.

LOOKING TO CLAIM A DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP
Salem has the opportunity to claim its first doubleheader sweep since taking down Livingstone on March 20, 2023 by scores of 13-5 and 15-2.

The last time that Salem went on the road to earn a doubleheader sweep was on March 7, 2020, when the Spirits took down Randolph in Lynchburg, Va., by scores of 3-1 and 7-2 in succession. The 2020 campaign also marked the last time that Salem claimed consecutive road victories, which reached five games.

The five-game winning streak began with a 4-1 win at Huntingdon on February 29th and continued with 4-1 and 5-4 triumphs over Agnes Scott on March 1st. Six days later, the Spirits earned their fourth and fifth road victories against Randolph on March 7th. Salem would win nine straight during that span, claiming home wins against both Ferrum (March 8) and FDU-Florham (March 11).

SCOUTING REPORT: Brevard | 6-23 / 0-10 USA South
Heading into Tuesday's clash, Salem and Brevard are both in search of their first USA South Conference win of the season.

Brevard has dropped its last 14 straight contests, a streak that began with a series of setbacks to Averett (8-3 and 11-5) in Danville, Virginia, on March 17th. In the two games prior to their clash with Averett, the Tornados took down both Thiel (10-0) and the University of Maine-Farmington (9-7) at a tournament in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 14th.

Brevard is led at the plate by MacKenzie Wilborne, who has a .380 batting average after connecting on 30 hits in 79 at bats. Wilborne has delivered three doubles and has a .418 slugging percentage and .402 on-base percentage for the Tornados. She is one of seven Brevard sluggers with multiple doubles, including Peyton Wise, who leads the way with four.

Jadyn Harlow is providing the most power in the Tornados' lineup with four home runs and 17 RBI. Meanwhile, Regan Winkler is second on the team in RBI with 13.

Abby Delp leads the Tornados' pitching staff with a 3.54 ERA, making 11 starts along the way. Delp, who is 4-5 on the season, has logged 63.1 innings and notched a team-best 23 K's. She has surrendered just one home run to opposing hitters.
