Averett slips away from basketball in fourth quarter

Danville, VA-The Spirits kept a road game close until the fourth quarter, when Averett pulled away for the 84-60 win. Quntashea Lewis continued her hot streak with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Salem falls to 2-10, while Averett improves to 5-4.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half. Averett held a slim 24-22 lead after the first quarter and they extended the lead to 44-39 at the half. Salem was still within striking distance after three quarters as they trailed by just ten points. Foul trouble and fatigue helped Averett pull away in the fourth quarter. 

Laramie Miller and Mikayla Seivers each had double-digit points. Miller finished with 12 points and Seivers finished with 11 for Salem. Miller had her first double-double of her career as she also had 10 rebounds, and Seivers led the team with 5 assists. Aaliyah Webb finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The Spirits return home for their first home game of 2016 as they host William Peace on January 6th at 7:00.
