Covenant pulls away for win over basketball

Lookout Mountain, GA-The Salem College basketball team's comeback against Covenant came up just short in an 82-78 loss in Georgia. Sabrina Shepherd dropped 22 points and Mikayla Seivers added 18 for the Spirits. Salem falls to 4-8 in the USA South and 7-15 overall, while the Scots improve to 5-7 and 11-11.

Covenant held a small lead throughout the first half and they went into the break with a 38-33 lead. They were able to extend their lead to 61-53 after three quarters. In the final quarter, Salem closed the lead to 80-78 after a three-pointer by Shepherd with 6 seconds left. The Scots were able to ice the game with 2 free throws.

Shenell Pharr came off the bench to score 16 points. Shepherd led the team with 7 rebounds. Hannah McBride had 4 steals and Seivers added 7 assists.

The Spirits will host Maryville on Friday night.
