Spirits Cap Off Four-Game Road Stretch at Pfeiffer

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem basketball team caps off its longest road stretch of the season—four games—with a 2 p.m. matinee contest against USA South Conference foe Pfeiffer on Saturday, December 18th.

The Spirits head to Meisenheimer, N.C. in search of their first league victory since defeating Methodist by a 78-66 margin on January 16, 2019. A Salem road triumph would coincedentally mark the first since claiming a 70-69 win at Meredith on February 10, 2018.

HEADING INTO HOLIDAY BREAK: Salem, which is 1-7 overall and 0-3 in USA South action, heads into its 11-day holiday break with Cree Bass and Kyana Thomas leading the way in points against league foes.

Bass tops the unit with 40 points, hitting 13-of-28 from the floor, 6-of-14 from 3-point range and 8-of-10 at the charity stripe, all team highs. Meanwhile, Thomas has 26 points to her credit against USA South opponents, knocking downing 10-of-27 field goal attempts, 4-of-6 free throws and a pair of 3-pointers. Savanah Atkins ranks third in scoring with 20 points, converting 8-of-18 free throws.

Tamsi Echendu has grabbed 21 rebounds (14 defensive) against the combination of N.C. Wesleyan, Methodist and Mary Baldwin. That is three more total rebounds than Bass, who has 18, and 10 more than both Thomas and Lauren Privette, who have 11 boards each.

Bass has also been a complement to her teammates with seven assists in league play, tied with Dionne Sampson for most against USA South foes. The trio of Bass, Atkins and Privette share the team lead in steals (five) through three conference contests.

PFEIFFER SLIDES INTO HOLIDAY BREAK: Pfeiffer heads into Saturday's game on a four-game losing streak, which began with a 74-68 setback to Averett on November 23rd.

The Falcons (3-5, 0-3 USA South) have suffered setbacks to Greensboro (85-67), Brevard (74-61) and Meredith (69-60) since their six-point loss to Averett.

The Spirits history with Pfeiffer dates back to January 31, 2018, when the two teams met in Meisenheimer. Pfeiffer earned the 73-57 victory in that contest and has won the last four head-to-head meetings since.
