Salem Set to Host Randolph in Lacrosse Action

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem lacrosse team makes its 2020 debut at Varsity Field on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. when it hosts Randolph in a non-conference clash.

The two teams have faced each other on just one other occasion in Salem's brief three-year history, with the match taking place on March 16 in Lynchburg, Va., and the Wildcats prevailed in that contest 15-5.

Salem's lone match of the 2020 season was a scrimmage against St. Andrew's on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Meanwhile, Randolph opened the slate with a 19-16 victory over USA South Conference member N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 15.

The WildCats were led by Sarah Perry, who notched 11 goals and Randolph was able to withstand a late Battling Bishops rally to claim the three-point win. Perry's 11 goals established a new Randolph single-game record. The previous record of seven was held by four players and last done by Taylor Klemenz twice in 2015. Perry's 11 points is also a new game record and breaks the previous record of 10 that was held by three players and last achieved by Klemenz in 2014.

SPIRITS FACE ST. ANDREWS IN SCRIMMAGE (FEB. 18): Salem's junior midfielder Collette Vladimery netted a team-high three goals, but it was the combination of Shania Johnson (five goals), Skii Bollinger (five), Kara Cheers (four) and Kelsey Houser (three) that made the difference as St. Andrews emerged with a 19-5 victory women's lacrosse action in Laurinburg, N.C.

Vladimery, who attempted eight shots on the afternoon, was also active on defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. On offense, Vladimery handed out one of Salem's (0-1) two assist in the match. The Spirits received their remaining two goals from the combination of Sara Jimenez and Teia Horton, who tallied one each.

Cara James led the way for the Spirits in ground balls, snagging eight, while forcing a pair of turnovers. She was successful on four draw controls and was responsible for an assist. Salem's Hannah Ostlund closed the match with 12 saves, while her counterpart at St. Andrews, Olivia Bartlett, tallied seven.
