Salem Suffers Setback to Piedmont

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Rowan Bumpass netted a game-high five goals while Emma Fransen and Domonique Steele added four each as Piedmont came through with a 21-1 victory in lacrosse action at Varsity Field on Sunday, March 8.

The Lions (3-3, 2-1 USA South) had five players record at least two goals in the win, including the trio of Bumpass, Fransen and Steele. Teammates Aislynn Kimbro (three) and Macey Higgins (two) also finished with multiple goals for Piedmont. Kimbro was one of three Lions with three assists, including Steele and Fransen.

The Piedmont defense was highlighted by Hunter Parrett in net, who tallied seven saves, as well as Kimbro with eight ground balls and five turnovers.

Salem, who slipped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in USA South action, received its one goal of the day from Collette Vladimery. Vladimery also came through with two caused turnovers, as did teammate Teia Horton. Hannah Ostlund made nine stops in goal for the Spirits, including five in the second half.

The trio of Bumpass, Fransen and Steele scored three goals each inside the first 18:35 of the game to provide Piedmont with a 12-0 advantage. Vladimery netted the lone Salem goal at the 8:33 mark, but the Lions added three goals in the final 5:34 to take a 15-1 lead into the intermission.

Piedmont scored six goals in the second half, including two from Kimbro, to complete its second win in league play.
