Harrington Leads Salem Over Louisburg

September 15, 2007

Rocky Mount, NC- Megan Harrington (Jacksonville, NC) scored twice to lead Salem College to a 2-1 overtime victory against Louisburg College in the North Carolina Wesleyan Women’s Classic. Harrington, a graduate of Southwest Onslow High School, scored three minutes into overtime on a free kick. Louisburg’s goalie was called for a hand ball out of the goalie box.  Harrington quickly placed the ball down and chipped the free kick over the goalie’s head before she could get back into the goal.

The victory against Louisburg College raised the Spirits record to 5-0-1. According to Head Coach Jay Callahan, “Megan’s play was very smart in overtime. Our defense played great as Courtney Sauer (Cartage, NC), Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC), Amber Bryant (Jonesville, NC) and Jamie Eurell (Jacksonville, NC) stepped up this game.” Salem College had 21 shots to Louisburg’s two.

Salem will return to action Sunday as the play North Carolina Wesleyan College at 2 pm in the Classic.
