Salem Prevails in Overtime 1-0!

September 4, 2007

Winston-Salem, NC- With 2:09 left to go in overtime, Tara Madden, a first-year student-athlete from Greenville, SC, scored to lift the Salem College Women’s Soccer Team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Sweet Briar College (0-2).

The Spirits battled hard throughout the game with the defense allowing only four shots. The offense attacked repeatedly as they collected 21 shots against Sweet Briar’s goalie Kristen Johnson. Time after time Johnson turned back the Spirits attack until the ball got away from her on a close shot from Salem’s Tori Collier (Raleigh, NC). Madden reacted to the loose ball and quickly scored to help the Spirits raise their record to 1-0-1 for the young 2007 season.

The Spirits will return to action on Friday, September 7, as they host Randolph College.
