Polk County's Trakas commits to play soccer at Salem

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer program is pleased to announce that Anna Trakas committed to attend Salem next fall. Trakas had an extraordinary four years playing for Coach Lennox Charles at Polk County High School in Tryon, NC. She has also spent time with the Highland Football Club (NC) and the Upstate Soccer Alliance. Salem is coming off of a 12-7-1 season in 2009, and a trip to the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals.

Trakas was a four time all-conference midfielder (2007-2010) at Polk County, and a four time team most valuable offensive player. Trakas was a three-time All-Region 9 performer (2008-2010), and was her team's overall most valuable player in 2009 and 2010. She was recently selected to participate for the West in the 2010 North Carolina East-West Soccer All Star game in July. 

She had an exemplary junior season in 2009. After falling in the 2008 1A NC State Championship game, Trakas helped lead Polk County to the title in 2009. Jazmine Bridgeman, a rising sophomore goalie on Salem's team, was also a member of that championship team. Trakas scored the only goal in the championship, and was selected as the games most valuable player. She was placed on the 1A NC All-State team. Trakas was also the Times-News All Area Player of the Year, and Region 9 Player of the Year in 2009.

Trakas was an excellent student-athlete at Polk County, and was placed on the Academic All-Conference team all four years. She was a member of the National Honors Society, Key Club, Interact, Spanish Club, and she was in the 2008 Rotary Exchange Program. Trakas plans to either major in Interior or Graphic Design at Salem. She is the daughter of Kelly and Dean Trakas.

Salem College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Winston-Salem, NC. Salem is the oldest educational institution for women in the United States, and was founded in 1772. The institution boasts a proud history of fostering independence in women. Salem was recently ranked number 67 in Forbes magazines second annual ranking of America's 600 best colleges, and as Forbes' number fourteen in their "America's Best College Buys" Top 100.
