Soccer beats Peace and wins Meredith Matchup

Raleigh, NC- The Salem College soccer team took the Meredith Matchup Championship this weekend after a 4-0 victory over Peace. Salem had the same record in the tournament as Meredith, but won the championship based on goal differential. Megan Lisle (Lawrenceville, GA), Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC), Tatum Justice (Jacksonville, NC), and Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) were all selected to the Meredith Matchup All-Tournament Team. Salem improves to 2-0-1 after the victory against Peace.

Justice, Michaux, and Lisle were aided by Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC) and Jazmine Bridgeman (Hope Mills, NC) to keep both Meredith and Peace off of the scoreboard this weekend. Bridgeman recorded 28 saves in the two games. 

Salem started their scoring against Peace when Tori Collier (Raleigh, NC) scored in the seventh minute off of a pass by Bringhurst. Sabrina Thiel (Hillsboro, OH) would score at the beginning of the second half, when Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) slotted her through on a direct kick. Bringhurst added the third goal, and Tara Madden (Greenville, SC) finished off the scoring for the Spirits. Erica Edwards (Clayton, NC) provided both assists for the last two goals. 

Salem outshot Peace 21-9. The Spirits will return to action on the 12th when they host the Salem Classic. Bryn Mawr, The College of Notre Dame, and Warren Wilson will all participate in the event.
