Soccer defeats Averett 5-1 on rainy field

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College soccer team defeated Averett 5-1 on a rain soaked field. Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) scored on a penalty kick and assisted on another goal to lead the Spirits. Salem improves to 4-1-1 with the win, and Averett drops to 2-2.

Tara Madden (Greenville, SC) got the scoring started in the 15th minute of play. Sabrina Thiel (Hillsboro, OH) scored on a long direct kick in the 34th minute. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) would score her first goal of the season with her head off of a corner kick by Wisen two minutes later. Salem went into the half with a 3-0 lead.

Hillary Wood scored to get Averett on the board in the 49th minute. Wisen would score just three minutes later to stretch the lead back to three. Erica Edwards (Clayton, NC) would finish the scoring in the 63rd minute. Salem outshot Averett 19-8, and had six corners to two by Averett.
