Soccer defeats Hollins 6-2 in non-conference action

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College soccer team exploded in the first seven minutes of the match to defeat Hollins 6-2 today. The Spirits scored three goals in the first 6:41 of the game to take a 3-0 lead. Tatum Justice (Jacksonville, NC) and Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) each scored twice for the Spirits. Salem improves to 8-5-1 with the win, and Hollins drops to 4-6-2.

Justice scored at the 2:11 mark on an assist by Sabrina Thiel (Hillsboro, NC) to get Salem on the board. Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) scored three minutes later on an assist by Justice. Bringhurst scored at 6:27 on an unassisted goal. Sierra Presnell (Marion, NC) finished up the first half scoring for the Spirits in the 39th minute to give Salem a 4-1 edge at the half.

Bringhurst scored just a minute and a half into the second half on a corner kick by Wisen. Justice finished off the scoring for the Spirits. Bringhurst also hit the post twice in the match. Salem outshot Hollins 17-8.

The Spirits will return to action tomorrow when they host Spelman College at noon.
