October 3, 2009

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Piedmont College in GSAC action this weekend. Piedmont scored a goal with less than three minutes remaining to take a 2-1 victory against the Spirits. Salem falls to 7-4-1, while Piedmont improves to 10-2 on the season.

Piedmont jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd minute, and could have added to that lead if Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Spring, NC) did not save a penalty kick in the 8th minute. Tara Madden (Greenville, SC) hit the post for the Spirits in the 22nd minute. Sabrina Thiel (Hillboro, OH) was able to tie the score in the 34th minute on a long shot, and the game went into the half at 1-1.

With three minutes left, Piedmont had a corner kick that the side linesman ruled to have crossed the line in the air before in was cleared. Piedmont and Salem each finished with 10 shots, and Piedmont had a four to two corner kick advantage.

Salem travels to GSAC opponent Maryville on October 10th at 1:00.
